"My Supports."
There are many things in my daily life that are
supportive to me. My technology devices, such as my laptop, and cell phone they
permit me to have access to the internet, where I can socialize with family and
friends whether it be by email, text, or by phone calls. Being to get in touch
with everyone in my support system so leisurely is essential especially in a
crisis or if I have a serious problem and need to talk to someone about it.
Being that I don’t have much family close by I really need my phone so I can
keep in touch with them. Reading is also a since of support for me. I am a
person that loves to read. Reading helps me to deal with stress and get a
release from my real-world issues. If I didn’t have my books, laptop, and phone
my life would be very different. I would have no way of keeping in touch with
my family member and friends mainly the ones that lives so far away. And I believe
I would lose it if I didn’t have my books for the support of blocking out my
everyday problems.
The challenge I choose to imagine about would be if I
had a visual impairment beyond the contacts or the glasses. I choose this
challenge because I had an aunt that was legally blind I use to always wonder
what my life would have been like if I had similar vision loss. I would have to
carry out my daily routine in different ways. Like using voice command to
communicate with family and friend and read books in Braille, or having to hear audio-books. I wonder would it be easy to
catch on to something like this. There has been many technological upgrading
which would make it easier to use technological tools such as computers;
nevertheless, I am arguable on how easily available these approaches are, or if
I need someone to assist in setting up my phone and computer to take advantage
of these technological improvements. I’m sure I would need to get a service dog
to help me with getting around.
Without audio-books, Braille books, and other software
to assist individuals that are visually impaired access the internet or other
specialized equipment. It would be hard to accomplish many of the things I
doing daily that I take granted of. Like being able to read labels or signs.
Something I would need my vision to do. If I had a visual impairment I would
have to learn to do everything differently or may not be able to do them at
all, something like drive a car.
Doing this assignment made me think about the support
I have and how I don’t acknowledge them often. I believe when individuals are
put into a new situation that they may not have the support they are used to
they may struggle some but eventually they would catch on.
